"Whaaaaat?!" Alice exclaimed. Silias looked at her seriously.
"I mean it, lets go to the beach." He said. Alice eyed him suspiciously.
"But... I'd need my bathing suit... And you can't be in the sun..." She protested. Silias smirked, and in a flash, he was gone. Alice turned 360 degrees, looking for him, then she just sat on a thick tree root with her arms crossed. A minute later, Silias whooshed back with his umbrella and a bag on his back. Alice knew what was in it and she glared at him. "We're not going to the beach, it won't be any fun if you can't do anything." She grumbled. Silias grinned.
"Oh, I'll tag along with my umbrella! Let's go!" And with that, Alice felt herself being hoisted up, and before she could say anything, Silias was travelling Vampire-speed with her through the trees. At one point, Silias sped up to a ridiculous pace and suddenly they were flying... Alice looked down and saw a fast-flowing river, and then they landed with a thud on the other side. Alice slammed her eyes closed and buried her face in Silias' shirt. She heard him giggle. After about another fifteen seconds, they stopped.
"Are we there now?" Alice asked weakly, her eyes still tightly shut.
"Yes, we're here." Alice touched down to the ground with her feet and opened her eyes. She looked at Silias and saw nothing but forest. She raised an eyebrow, then Silias motioned with his head for her to look behind her. She turned around and gasped. They were on the edge of the forest, still in the cover of the trees, but ahead was a beautiful beach, with light sand. The lake was pristine and glittering in the sunlight, there were some motorboats out, and the occassional seagull drifted lazily on the warm breeze. "Welcome to Lake Superior." Silias said simply. Alice stepped forward into the sunlight, enjoying the heat. Silias watched her sadly. She looked back at him and retreated into the shade again.
"This is a bad idea," She said. "I don't want to go out there if you can't even come past the trees. I would feel horrible." She looked down. Silias looked at his umbrella.
"Well... I would probably burn my legs if I was standing in the sun, but if I sat down I'm sure I'd be covered..." He pondered. "Yes. You should get on your bathing suit now." He unslung the backpack from his arms and handed it to her. It was surprisingly heavy. "I won't look, I promise." He said. Alice walked a little further into the forest, and opened the bag. Inside, neatly folded, was a towel, a blanket, and her bikini, along with sunscreen. She laughed.
"Only Silias," she said to herself. She quickly got changed, grabbed the sunscreen, and walked back to Silias. He turned, looked at her, and whistled.
"Nice bathing suit." He commented.
"Nice packing job with the bag," She said with a laugh. "Where the heck did you get sunscreen from?"
"Hah, Brianna went on a 'buying stuff for the human' spree. She figured you'd need some sunscreen. I guess you actually do." He put his free arm araound her and kissed the top of her head. "Get some on." Alice walked onto the beach, laid out her towel, and sat down, smothering the white lotion on herself. She looked back at Silias, who was still in the trees.
"Get your pale Vampire butt out here and sit with me!" She called to him with a smirk. He laughed and was instantly sitting down next to her, being careful to stay in the shade of the umbrella. He leaned against her bare shoulder.
You are so soft and pale and... He stared at the flesh on her neck, he could hear her heart beating faintly, he could smell the blood that was pulsing through her veins...
He snapped his head back and sat up. Alice was too busy applying sunscreen to notice.
BE CAREFUL, YOU IDIOT. His mind screamed at him. He shook his head, and noticed the strong aroma of the sunscreen. He frowned.
"You smell like sunscreen." He pouted. Alice looked at him like he was an idiot.
"Well... Yeah."
"You smell soooo much better without sunscreen." He complained. Alice laughed.
"I don't want to burn, stop being such a sissy. I'm going to go swimming now."
"Alright..." Silias said, " It's really shallow, you have to go out pretty far to get to deep water, so be careful." He warned her.
"Okay," She rolled her eyes, "I'll be careful. I'll see you soon." She kissed him, her lips lingered for a moment on his, then she was running down the beach towards the water. Silias sighed.
If I still had breath, that kiss would have taken it away... He looked into the distance, watching the seagulls dive down into the water, sometimes coming up with fish. He looked at his feet. He was wearing his old, beat-up black and white converse. he took them off and buried his toes in the warm sand. Curiously, he looked at his hand, and then thrust it out of the safe shade of the umbrella and into the hostile sunlight. For about five seconds he was fine, he turned his white hand over in wonder. Then, an excruciating pain shot up his arm and he pulled his hand back. He glared at it, as if it was at fault for his sunlight intolerance. When he was done hating his hand, he scanned the waterfront for Alice. He tensed. He couldn't see her... He couldn't see her. He stood up in panic.
"Alice?" He said. " ALICE!" His eyes scanned the water for any trace of her thrashing, or even her body floating, he couldn't see her.
ohmygodshecan'tbedeadnotnowshecan'tbe
"ALICE!!!" He cried out. Suddenly, he saw Alice's head bob up out of the water. She flicked her long har back, and waved something small over her head.
"SILIAS, LOOK! I found a shell!" She said gleefully, oblivious of the panic her underwater exploration had caused Silias. Silias just stood there, not noticing the pain from the sunlight hitting his legs. His eye twitched. He could feel nothing but relief. Alice took a breath and plunged back into the deep, in search of more tiny treasures. Silias could only blink. Then, his leg caught fire.
"AHH, SHIT SHIT SHIT!!!" He sat down in the sand and buried his flaming leg. Tears of pain ran down his cheeks. "Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!" He moaned. He pulled his scorched leg out of the sand and brushed it off, along with little pieces of his leg that had turned to ash. There was a crater in his left calf muscle the size of a grapefruit. He blew out all of the ashes and gritted his teeth, waiting for the healing process to start, and sure enough, a few moments later, the muscle and sinew began their creeping journey to reconnect his leg. The spiderweb of veins crawled over it, closely followed by shiny pink skin. Eventually, the pinkness left and his calf was fine again. "Ungh." He massaged his new flesh. He looked up to see Alice coming up for another breath. He was glad she didn't see his leg on fire. He felt kid of embarrassed. He sighed and looked around some more, enjoying the beauty of the beach. The seagulls calling, the waves gushing, the motorboats running...
Motorboats? What is a motorboat doing on this side of the bay...?
ALICE IS SWIMMING IN THIS SIDE OF THE BAY.
Silias looked over to the waterfront to see Alice surfacing for air once more...
... Only to be run down by a fast-racing motorboat.
"ALICE!!!" Silias screamed. Instinct took over. He dropped his black umbrella and ran as fast as he could to the water, stumbling on the sand. He could feel the sunlight starting to take it's effect on him, so he dove into the water and swam. He surfaced only to orient himself, and he caught the scent of blood... Alice's blood.
Ohmygoditisactuallyhappeningohmygodohmygodpleaseno He saw Alice floating about a foot underwater about a hundred yards away to his right. "ALICE!!!" He screamed again, and his voice broke, he was fighting back distressed sobs. When he reached her, she was unconscious, and the water around her was bright red. The smell was tantalizing him, but he fought the temptation and he lifted her up and out of the water, wondering where she was bleeding from... Then he felt something warm and wet running through his fingers where he was holding her back. He Turned her over in the air and saw a huge gash in her back, it was oozing blood as fast as her heart could pump. Silias made a choking noise and prayed that brianna had seen this coming... If not, Alice would die. He swam carefully but quickly through the water, making sure her head never went under, gritting his teeth against the pain of the sun. He had to dunk his head twice to keep from setting on fire, but it didn't stop the pain. He finally got to the beach and he laid her down on the towel on her belly, her face turned side ways. He grabbed the blanket and tore long strips out of it, making makeshift bandages and wrapping them around her midsection. He had to do this with the umbrella in hand, the pain was just too great. When he had her bandaged up, he picked her up with the towel and took her to the shade, there he could freely move around. Blood seeped through the bandages quickly, so he just kept tearing off pieces of the blanket and wrapping them around her torso. She just kept bleeding, and Silias wouldn't be able to stand all of the blood anymore, the smell was driving his crazy, many times he had to look away. "AUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" He screamed in frustration. He ripped his shirt off and held it against Alice's wound, he was running out of things to bandage her with. He cradled her in his arms, whispering, "It's okay, baby, please hold on, please hold on..."
Back at the mansion, Brianna's head snapped up from a game of chess.
"What's wrong?" Avery asked.
"Alice!" And with that, she was gone, and Avery could only follow, not knowing that Alice was bleeding to death in the arms of a bloodlusting Vampire.
